Home-sharing websites, such as Airbnb and HomeAway, have been giving the holiday industry a run for its money of late, with many choosing to book through their easy to use online services rather than the more established holiday companies.

Marriott International have been piloting a home-sharing program which began in April. They risked into the market on a six month trial, in collaboration with UK based home rental company Hostmaker.

Marriott already have 6,500 hotels and 110 million loyalty program members and are determined to grow even bigger by entering the home-sharing market.

Derrol Flynn posed as a police officer to gain the confidence of her victims before stealing their cash. She had already been jailed multiple times for similar offences, stretching back 20 years.

The FCC Hands Down Biggest Ever Fine For Man Who Made 96 Million Robocalls.

The US Federal Communications Commission have issued a $120 million fine to a man from Miami, Florida. It was alleged that he had been the mastermind behind 96 million robocalls, tricking customers with ‘exclusive’ sales of holiday and timeshare properties through unsolicited automated calls.

In 2017, the FCC first bought the case against Adrian Abramovich, stating that during a three month period in 2016 he made 96 million Robocalls. The commission proposed a $120 million fine for the offence.

Two Florida Businessman Have Been Permanently Banned From Selling Timeshare’s And Ordered To Surrender Their Assets.

The two businessmen, Jess Kinmont and John Wenz, ran and operated ‘Pro Timeshare Resales LLC’ from 2011 to 2016. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the US’s equivalent of Trading Standards, brought the case against the pair to court, in response to complaints made by consumers. Officials in Singapore have sentenced another timeshare fraudster, after he was involved in multiple cheating scams, duping naive timeshare owners into believing he could recover money from terminating their timeshare memberships. He has been sentenced to 3 and a half years imprisonment for his part in this huge scam.

A court heard that during the course of three years, over 50 victims reported to police that they were cheated by the defendant into paying money to recover some of the money they had already paid to their timeshare resorts. FOS to Hire Independent Reviewer In Wake Of Channel 4 Investigation.

The Financial Ombudsman Service is to appoint an independent reviewer to consider issues raised in the recently broadcast Channel 4 Dispatches Investigation, the body’s chief executive Caroline Wayman has revealed.

In response to a letter from Nicky Morgan MP, Wayman said FOS had appointed an independent reviewer so it could better understand and address the concerns raised by the Reports programme.
