Many timeshare holders and frequent holiday makers of the 5 star Fortina Hotel in Malta have started to post on the ever popular TripAdvisor site. Unfortunately, it appears that the hotel is due to close in December 2017.

Timeshare owners have received a letter from a company called Mercury Direct informing them that the hotel will not be operating after December 2017.

We have recently become aware of a letter sent out to Diamond Resorts International (DRI) clients with maintenance fee demands for 2017/18.

The letter warns DRI owners to be aware of claims companies. The content of the letter is merely a scaremongering exercise to deter owners from terminating their memberships with DRI.

The UK European Consumer Centre (UK ECC) has issued advice on your rights when flights are cancelled.

The UK ECC is an agency funded by the European Union and is advising British Vacationers affected by flight cancellations that EC Regulation 261/2004 legislation protects consumers against disruption and financial loss.

What could this mean for you if your flight was cancelled?

  • If an airline cancels your flight, they are obliged to offer you re-routing to your final destination or a full refund.

Monarch Airlines has gone into administration and all its holidays and flights have been cancelled with immediate effect. 750,000 Monarch customers have had their future bookings cancelled.

The CAA, the Civil Aviation Authority, are working alongside the Department for Transport to organise the return of over 100,000 customers who are currently overseas.

CAA chief executive Andrew Haines said:

Weekly payment store BrightHouse (Trading name of Caversham Finance Ltd) has been told to pay out £14.8million in compensation and refunds after The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) ruled that it had treated its customers unfairly.

The firm had agreed to pay 249,000 customers for Expensive lending and payments which should have been refunded.

The Financial Conduct Authority said BrightHouse failed to be a ‘responsible lender’, and had not always delivered good outcomes for customers – particularly those at higher risk of falling into financial difficulty.

The payments related to 384,000 agreements between April 2010 and September 2016.
