Equifax, the credit rating agency, has been fined £500,000 by the ICO, after a data breach left the personal information of 15 million Britons exposed.

AMS Marketing LTD, based in East Sussex, made 75,649 calls to people who had registered their telephone numbers on the Telephone Preference Service (TPS).

The ICO and TPS received a total of 103 complaints about the unsolicited calls between the dates of 1 October 2016 and 31 December 2017.

Our Vault LTD fined £70k by the Information Commissioners Office, after making 55,364 nuisance phone calls.

 

In a statement, the ICO said it had issued an Enforcement Notice to the company, ordering it to stop its illegal marketing activity.

Our Vault had been cold-calling people who had previously registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and had not consented to being contacted by Our Vault.

The raid followed public complaints from members of the public about automated calls promoting boiler and window replacement schemes.

Calls were even made to a Network Rail control centre near Fort William and as a result drivers and pedestrians were unable to check if it was safe to cross the rails at unmanned crossings.

Ken MacDonald, Head of ICO Scotland said, “these calls have caused millions of people disruption, annoyance and distress, but not only this, those made to a control centre charged with public safety may have endangered lives”.
