“Its not your Parent’s Timeshare anymore”

That’s the message from Bluegreen Vacations Corp, a Boca Raton based company seeking to tap the next generation of Traveller’s.

Bluegreen is planning a major expansion to the western U.S of the company’s vacation destinations, whilst also trying to expand it’s customer base, and have announced completion of the purchase of Eilan Hotel and Spa for $34 million. The vacation ownership company is seeking to attempt to target younger travellers by expanding into hip locations, offering the types of activities and experiences millennials may enjoy. Eilan Hotel and Spa features a fitness centre, luxury locations and is close to Six Flags amusement park and several wineries.

Bluegreen has long aimed to cater to a distinct market and offers many different types of locations. One such location at their Shenandoah Crossing resort in Virginia, offers luxury Yurt accomodation, for those seeking to experience the great outdoors in style. Bluegreen has 67 hotels and resorts through partnership and exchange networks. The company operates a ‘Points based’ deeded vacation ownership program that connects over 200,000 owners with over 60 Bluegreen resorts, in more than 40 popular destinations across the continental USA and the Caribbean.

Owners buy points to gain access to the company’s properties. The more points owned, the more access a vacation owner has to top properties at peak times. The starting buy-in for points ranges from $10,000 to $15,000 and can be carried over to another year, owners can also purchase additional point’s.

These points are valued depending on various factors, such as the time of year, destination, size of accomodation, quality, etc. The idea is that the traditional timeshare model of owning a specific week within a specific resort doesn’t match how the vast majority of people holiday nowadays and so points provide a greater amount of versatility.

Before purchasing any points based holiday product, do the math ! Can the amount of points purchased provide you with the holiday you want each year, without having to purchase additional points you didn’t budget for?

Can you gain access to the types of locations and facilities you want to visit, when you want to visit them? There are too many holiday club members who report being unhappy with the standard of accomodation using their annual points allowance. There are even reports of people being unable to book a specific week during peak season, despite having two years of gathered points.

Research any company or organisation you are investing your hard-earned cash in. It is important to note that points owning members enjoying the highest levels of satisfaction generally have a good understanding of how to get the most out of their products.

New and exclusive developments are sure to attract many new customers seeking a unique holiday experience. However, many are persuaded to purchase ‘points-based’ holiday products, which are often non-refundable, non-transferable and with virtually no resale value. In addition to this, you will face mounting maintenance fees.
