Weekly payment store BrightHouse (Trading name of Caversham Finance Ltd) has been told to pay out £14.8million in compensation and refunds after The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) ruled that it had treated its customers unfairly.

The firm had agreed to pay 249,000 customers for unaffordable lending and payments which should have been refunded.

The Financial Conduct Authority said BrightHouse failed to be a ‘responsible lender’, and had not always delivered good outcomes for customers – particularly those at higher risk of falling into financial difficulty.

The payments related to 384,000 agreements between April 2010 and September 2016.

A record-breaking £14bn collective action against Mastercard is set to rumble on after the former financial ombudsman who brought the case on behalf of 46 million consumers seeks to appeal last month’s Competition Appeal Tribunal ruling.

Four Points by Sheraton Venice Mestre has opened as part of Marriott, under a franchise agreement with the Italian management company DHotels. The new location is in the urban area of Mestre which is one of the most economically developed regions of Italy.

Ryanair is facing legal action after being accused of intimidating passengers attempting to claim hundreds of pounds worth of flight delay compensation from the airline.

This comes after the Irish carrier was asked for an apology and damages, after the airline sent letters to its customers who had attempted to obtain compensation due under EU legislation.

Ryanair is informing the customer they will receive the full compensation by going direct to the airline.

Monarch Airlines has gone into administration and all its holidays and flights have been cancelled with immediate effect. 750,000 Monarch customers have had their future bookings cancelled.

The CAA, the Civil Aviation Authority, are working alongside the Department for Transport to organise the return of over 100,000 customers who are currently overseas.

The UK European Consumer Centre (UK ECC) has issued advice on your rights when flights are cancelled.

The UK ECC is an agency funded by the European Union and is advising British holidaymakers affected by flight cancellations that EC Regulation 261/2004 legislation protects consumers against disruption and financial loss.

What could this mean for you if your flight was cancelled?
